visit

In the weekend of October 9th and 10th 2010 STAM - Ghent City Museum - will open to the public. STAM will provide the perfect introduction to Ghent.

The historic splendour of the building that houses STAM becomes clear in the abbey’s church, refectory and cloisters. The abbey contains marvellous pre-Van Eyckian wall paintings in one of the most beautiful medieval refectories in Western Europe.

In the fourteenth-century abbey, STAM will introduce visitors to the story of the city by means of a permanent circuit that relies heavily on high-tech multimedia applications. Temporary exhibitions and other projects will be organised in the adjoining 17th-century monastery buildings.

Not only will you find the depository of the city’s memory there, you will also be able to take the pulse of the contemporary city and get a glimpse of the future. STAM then passes you on to the city itself, because that is the museum’s prize object.
